Boston Ferments connects, educates and inspires communities through fermentation.
Boston Ferments was shocked & deeply sad at the loss of our fellow fermenter, creative leader and deep thinker Geoff Lukas. Geoff was a willing collaborator with Boston Ferments on many projects. He spoke at and participated in all three Fermentation Festivals and organized a number of successful fermentation-themed meals - one with Sandor Katz - that demonstrated fermented foods from around the world.
Geoff's work and friendships crossed many platforms and shared many interests. The use of this webpage is to remember Geoff, honor his creative spirit & stories. We held a memorial gathering for Geoff on November 1st, 2015, at Commonwealth Restaurant, and held a massive fermented foods tasting at the start of the 2016 Boston Fermentation Festival where we tasted & distributed many of the (immense amount of) fermenting experiments that Geoff was working on before his death.

Remembrances of Geoff
I only met Geoff once, at a fermentation-themed meal he presented, but I was very impressed, not only by the delicious food he prepared, but by the depth of the research that had gone into it, particular in respect to Persian cuisine. He had such an insatiable curiosity about food and the cultural traditions it is part of. I mourn his passing and the collaborations we never got to have.

Geoff was a good friend & great chef. His food (fermented *and* fresh) was informed by a deep interest & curiosity into other cultures. Geoff was always up for partnering on a new event, speaking engagement, food project or other wild idea. I will miss his smart comments, delicious dishes.
